The Law School welcomes freshmen of class 111 and encourages diversified exploration and planning for the future
College of Law held the 2022 Freshman Orientation on September 6th, with about 150 freshmen participating. During the activity, in addition to leading new students to understand the law school courses, learn about the school's unique legal services and internship courses, the law school English credit course, the school-level international exchange and dual degree signed by the school, and introduce one by one in the future during the study period. will lead their class instructors.
The welcome event was kicked off by Dean Cheng-Hsien Hsu, who welcomed freshmen to the National Chengchi University on behalf of the College of Law. In addition to looking forward to the new campus to be completed in the near future, he also introduced the characteristic staircase space located on the 14th and 15th floors of the North Building of the comprehensive campus: Freshmen On the 14th floor, you can get to know the teachers in the school through the photo wall of the comma space. On the 15th floor, you can read cross-disciplinary books carefully selected by the teachers of the school to develop diverse interests. At the same time, Dean Hsu explained to the freshmen the 222 plan promoted by the school, and hoped that the freshmen could take this opportunity to learn a second foreign language, cultivate a second specialty, and read at least 200 books, so as to cultivate themselves in four years; Interested students can plan to apply for a five-year consistent study plan, and complete the bachelor's and master's credits and obtain two degrees within five years. In the end, Dean Hsu concluded with the words of Judge Learned Hand of the United States: "The importance of reading classic works of literature, history and philosophy will not be lost to legal books." After Prof. Chung-Lun Shen, Director of the Department of Law, gave an introduction to the courses of the Law School, Assistant Ms. Yu-Ting Su, who was in charge of the university department, introduced various curriculum plans and the ten newly established elective courses, and Assistant Ms. Yvonne Chen, who was in charge of international affairs, introduced English Taught Program (ETP) and Dual Degree Program. The college cooperates with Sydney University of Technology (UTS), University of California Hastings (UC Hastings), Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law (IU-Maurer), Information on international cooperation and exchange such as dual degree and college-level international exchanges such as Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the United Kingdom. We look forward to new students not only studying law, but also having the opportunity to communicate with other universities and expand their international horizons.
In addition, Prof. Ting-Chi Liu, who participated in the planning at the initial stage, was invited to introduce the well-established and widely acclaimed service practice course of our school. Prof. Liu mentioned that the purpose of the course design is to emphasize the empathy of law school students through public participation and public service, combining the legal profession and helping the disadvantaged in society. Taking the public service practice course of the Public Law Center as an example, the course cooperates with NGOs and NPOs such as the Humanistic Education Foundation and the Disabled Alliance to provide case services, such as assisting in providing legal advice, making legal revision posts, etc. Theories, practical insights and real cases are combined. If students study and complete the credits required for this course, they will have the opportunity to apply to the long-term cooperation of the school, Concord International Law Firm, Gold Stone International Law Firm, Tai Ding Law Firm, Yisi Technology Law Firm, and Lili Law. Finally, Director Chung-Lun Shen of the Department of Law explained the class tutor system of our school, and introduced the four freshman class tutors as a guide for new students to seek life assistance in the school, and continued to invite each tutor to give encouragement to the students. Professor Wen-Chieh Wang reminds students that we will treat students who enter the Law Department of National Chengchi University as independent and mature individuals, and college career is like painting, how to arrange and paint bright colors is up to you. Prof. Jia-He Lin hoped that in this generation that emphasizes the coexistence of professionalism and multi-disciplinary coexistence, they should try and contact other fields in many ways, and cherish the rich opportunities provided by National Chengchi University to open other doors. Prof. Anna Yan inherited the topic of the previous two teachers, taking the Institute of Legal Interdisciplinary Integration of our school as an example, and the National Chengchi University's joining the University System of Taiwan in recent years.
